This last week was a long one, but we had some fun! We completed our classroom transformation and now have various cell structures suspended from our ceiling. It looks really cool! Stop by some time to check it out.
We have started our new hymn of the month: A Mighty Fortress Is Our God, one of our favorites. Things to be thinking about.... Monday night is the Middle School Fall Concert starting at 6:30 pm. Come see our middle schoolers showcase the talents God has given them through music. Wednesday afternoon, the Spanish Elective class will be going on a field trip for lunch. Thursday, is Saints 4 a Day at the high school. Please fill out the permission slip form https://forms.gle/BYcPW6wpSC1WUgq29, and good news! We don't need drivers! This Friday, our All Saints' Fest class donation description will be turned in for our Yard Work Service Project. Please return your donation envelope when you get a chance, our final donation will be turned in later this month. Next week is fall break! What are we learning? Religion: we have continued talking about God's Word and what that means for Christians. Science: we will be creating a tour for our classroom cell this week. Health: we worked together to analyze what influences our character values. We have noticed that we don't always agree on what has the most impact on how we develop and shape our character. Ask your student about the classes they have outside of our room too! :) I pray that you have a blessed week! We had a pretty good week, again! I can't believe it's going to be fall break soon! Through Scholastic Dollars, our class was able to add four books to our 7th grade library!
Things to be thinking about.... Friday is a late start! Classrooms open at 9:10 am, and school starts at 9:25 am. Extended care is open regular hours if needed. Box Top Collection sheets are due back tomorrow! Gather your box tops and fill in the collection sheets to help us earn a reward! Donuts with Dad (or other male role model in your life) is Wednesday morning before school. A couple of weeks ago, I sent home an envelope and information about collecting donations for our Yard Work Service Project that the 7th grade will donate for All Saints' Fest this year; hopefully it made it out of the backpack! What are we learning? Religion: we have been talking about God's Word and what that means for Christians. Science: we have begun our class cell project. We actually put some of our structures up in the classroom today! Students are transforming our room into a plant cell. Health: we worked together to analyze what influences our character values. We have noticed that we don't always agree on what has the most impact on how we develop and shape our character. I really enjoy my homeroom class! We had another great week...though, we really missed Michael this week, and pray that he is feeling better soon. Hannah introduced the class to the Beach Boys, and since then I have been quite entertained watching them bat at a mini-beach ball in the mornings. We took school pictures on Wednesday, and some silly class pictures too. Our new choice session started today, and from the looks of the students, they seemed to really enjoy what they are doing.
Things to be thinking about.... Monday, is an early dismissal day due to parent/teacher conferences. Dismissal is at 1:30 pm this day. If you were unable to sign up for a time slot with me or another teacher, please let me know, and we can work out another time to get together. Here is the Pre-Conference Form for 2019 - https://forms.gle/QNhE2h8GvpcAfuqS6 Starting Monday, is the Scholastic Book Fair, and it will be open each morning and afternoon before and after school all next week. What are we learning? Religion: we have completed our Prayer Unit. Our memory and discussions will now center on some questions about our faith. Science: we have been learning about some of the organelles that can be found in a eukaryotic cell and how they work kind of like a factory, school, or city. Second, there is information about collecting box tops. Lastly, I sent home an envelope and information about collecting donations for our Yard Work Service Project that the 7th grade will donate for All Saints' Fest this year. What are we learning? Religion: we have completed our Prayer Path project, and many of these prayer paths are so cool! Have your student describe some of them to you when you get a chance. We also created some "Handy" Prayers by tracing our hands and writing our specific prayers on each of the fingers to help focus our prayer life. We will be finishing up our prayer unit next week, and a take home "Quiz" will be given, which will be due next Friday. Science: we have been studying eukaryotic organisms - single and multicullular organisms with a nucleus and other membrane organelles. We created a classroom full of protists, animal-like, plant-like, and fungi-like too. Later there will be a class project which will culminate with turning the classroom into a eukaryotic cell. Also, heads up...we will be going to the Creation Museum this year. The date will be the week before fall break, either Wednesday or Thursday...I will let you know for sure ASAP. Look for a field trip form through email soon. What are we learning? Religion: we have continued talking about prayer. We created prayer cubes to help us be intentional about praying. We have also discussed and brainstormed prayer path/garden ideas too. Science: we are going to begin studying eukaryotic organisms - single and multicullular organisms with a nucleus and other membrane organelles. There will be a class project attached to this lesson, which will culminate with turning the classroom into a cell. Health: we discussed the areas of health and things that can affect our health - our choices affect health more than external factors. Students started to create health goals as well. So far, we have gotten a better look at how our daily routine will work this year, learned our hymn of the month, "I am trusting thee Lord Jesus," met our chapel buddies, welcomed a new student (welcome Luke!), chosen our electives, and picked our first choice class section. I will say it again, whew!
Things to remember: Band students need to have their instruments for Monday, next week. Next week Thursday, is Back to School Night, starting at 6:45 pm. Blessings on your weekend! In Christ, Nicolette Mierow What an amazing couple of weeks we have had!
The week before last the 7-uppers traveled with the 4th graders to the Danville theater, where they had a chance to share poems they had written. The classes also enjoyed a showing of The Wizard of Oz. The next day, we traveled to the Mattick's, where we spent a busy day weeding, painting, planting, mulching, hanging shutters, and enjoying yummy food. The students worked hard, and the Mattick's property looked amazing at the end of our time there. The service project was definitely a success, and I pray that the students realize the good work done that day was not just with their hands, but in the care of their neighbor! This week, we watched the 8th grade head off on their trip, meaning the 7th graders were the top dogs for the rest of the week. Thursday, we spent a beautiful day at Kings Island (though we missed Ellana as she was competing in a Bible competition with her youth group). It was a ton of fun to have the 7th graders show me their favorite rides, and try new ones too. For a first time field trip, I think it went well, and I really appreciate our chaperones' help on this one. We only have five more days of being a 7th grader! :( I have so enjoyed this bunch, it's hard to believe they are almost 8th graders. Here's to one more week! In religion we are wrapping up our year talking about the work of the Holy Spirit and how we are renewed each day through His mercy and grace. In Science we are learning about forces and motion, tying in all our experiences from Kings Island, which was awesome! In health we will end our year with dissection of sheep organs next week Wednesday and Thursday! REMINDERS & THINGS TO THINK ABOUT 7th Grade hosts the graduation reception each year. Graduation is Thursday, May 23rd. A signup genius will be sent out for helpers during the event, we will need helpers for pre-reception prep, reception facilitation, and post-reception clean-up. Students and parents are expected to help in some capacity during this event. Awards and Chapel will begin at 8:45 am Friday morning, with Field Day activities commencing after that. Many of you may already be helping out that day, so thank you, however, if you are interested in helping out, and can be available throughout the day, please let me know, I am sure we can use the extra hands! 1:45 pm dismissal on our last day of school. Students should bring in their EMPTY water guns FRIDAY morning for our end of day water gun fight. Blessings on your weekend! Thursday, May 2nd, was National Day of Prayer, so we started our school day out under the canopy in front of the school with prayers. Today, we were able to see the dress rehearsal for the 1st - 4th grade musical that will be tonight at 7 pm. The band members have been practicing very diligently for their concert that will follow tonight's musical, and I am very excited to see how they have grown in their musical gifts. In religion we are talking about the last day when Christ will return for His people and what His names tell us about who He is. Monday, the students will be presenting their Names of Jesus Art that will hang in our classroom. In Science we are discussing how heat is transferred between particles and objects. This will lead us into forces and motion, just in time for our visit to Kings Island! In health we are now learning about our nervous system. We will be reviewing other body systems in the next two weeks as well, which will end with dissection of sheep organs during the last week of school.
