News and Notes for 2/2/20
1. Thursday is the big night! Students need to report to the classroom by 6:10 pm for costumes. The evening will begin at 6:30 pm in the gym. There will be 3 performances, 5th grade, 6th grade, and 7/8th. It is expected to be no more than an hour from start to finish. Below is what students should wear in addition to their costumes: Narrators, Damon, Pythias, Voices, Mother: White long sleeve shirt or tank tops, any kind pants are fine, sandals if available. Guards and Robbers: Black colored long sleeve shirts and pants, sandals if available. Please email me with any questions. I know the students are looking forward to this performance and have been working hard learning lines and stage directions. 2. Friday is a late start. The school day will begin at 9:25 am. 3. The class has been working to earn points toward a common goal by being on time and ready for school, completing all homework assignments, packing up and cleaning up on time for dismissal, and keeping lockers and cubbies clean. Encourage your child to contribute to the class goal by being ready for each school day. 4. We raised $1500 during the Penny War competition during Lutheran School's Week. Praise be to God! $750 will be donated to Sheltering Wings in Danville and $750 will be spent on new playground equipment and storage. 5. We need to finish up our Chicago funding in the next month. I am in need of a few parents who can help sell travel mugs from the narthex before school in the upcoming weeks. We will also sell Rice Krispie treats around Valentines' Day as our final fundraiser.

New and Notes...
1. Thank you to everyone who has helped with fundraisers for our Chicago Trip. Pasta was delivered to those who had sales. If you have any questions, please contact Kim Meyerholtz. The Candy Cane Fundraiser will wrap up Monday. Our current total raised is just under $1000. We will sell travel mugs with the Our Shepherd logo on Sunday's between and after services. We are hoping that between the travel mugs and one last bake sale, we will hit our goal of $1550! God is Good! 2. Tonight is the PTL Christmas Movie Night at 6:00pm. This is a free event and the whole family is welcome! 3. Monday is the All School Christmas Program. Students should be dropped off in the gym by 6:15pm on Monday evening. The program is a great opportunity to share the Gospel message with others! 4. We will not have a gift exchange next week. Instead the class will make some yummy food and lunch for our party on Friday. We will make food and watch The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. 1. This is the last weekend to sell pasta for the fundraiser. Money and orders are due on Monday. 2. Today was the last official day of the mini-economy. Students filled income taxes and calculated to see if they would get a refund or if they owed money. Entrepreneurs are allowed to sell on Monday. An auction will be held on Tuesday for students to spend their remaining money. 3. Tuesday is the Chick-Fil-A lunch hosted by student council. Many students ordered but forgot their money. Please have the money in on Monday. Enjoy the weekend! News and Notes for 11/8:
1. Today is the last day of the trimester. Grades will be finalized over the next few days and Report Cards will be sent home next Friday. 2. New Memory Work sheets went home today and a digital copy is attached to this email. 3. Mrs. Meyerholtz and Mrs. Ardoin have been hard at work coming up with fundraising ideas for our Chicago trip. Our next fundraising date for your calendar is December 4th. The 6th-grade class and their families will serve the Advent meal at Our Shepherd between the 4:30 and 6:30 pm services. Please put the date on your calendar. More information will come home as the date gets closer. 4. The students have started doing Readwork assignments. I have been pleased with the class' comprehension ability. You will see Readwork scores as a separate category within their Literature grade. Literature class does not have category weighting but, it does have separate categories to make it easier to see how students perform om different types of assignments/assessments. 5. News and Notes for 10/4/19...
1. Outdoor Education is Wednesday through Friday. Be sure to bring your child's snack item on Monday. Additionally, students need a lunch for Wednesday. We will return to school by noon on Friday. A pizza lunch will be provided for them. Please plan on dropping off and picking up your child from the back school doors (by our classroom). We will attend chapel on Wednesday prior to leaving. STUDENTS SHOULD NOT DRESS UP FOR CHAPEL. 2. We have finished reading Amelia Lost, and are now working on our final project, a news article. Students will use class time on Monday and Tuesday to work on this article. All articles are due before we leave on Wednesday. 3. Monday is a math quiz over converting and comparing fractions, decimals, and percents. 4. ASF tickets are now on sale. If you have never attending All Saint's Fest and would like more information please feel free to speak with me about the event. It is a fun night for the adults and the the proceeds go to our tuition assistance fund and will also help to improve technology in the classroom. 5. We will have our first fundraiser for our Chicago trip the Friday after fall break. Avon is not offering hot lunch the week following fall break so we will offer a pizza lunch to all students on Friday, October 25th. I will need parent volunteers to get the pizzas and help serve lunch. Please let me know if you are available to help. Notes for Next Week...
1. Outdoor Education permission slips will go home Monday. Please return ASAP 2. ALL OUTDOOR EDUCATION FORMS ARE DUE BY WEDNESDAY 3. We will finish up reading Amelia Lost this week. Students will wrap up the unit by writing a newspaper report about the disappearance of Amelia. 4. Please try to have students in the building between 8:10 and 8:15. School doesn't technically start until 8:25, but the start of our day is being delayed by students still needing to unpack. This was a full week! Complete with a severe weather drill, a late start, and 6th graders leading morning announcements. Today we started our new choice session, Outdoor Games. The options this session are biking, golf, frisbee golf, walking, and recess games. The kids seemed to enjoy the extra time outside and everyone came in nice and sweaty! We will finish up reading Amelia Lost next week. Students will write some newspaper articles in amongst some other culminating activities. We took a math test early this week. Overall, the students showed improvement from the start of the chapter but the grades were not as great as I desire to show mastery. Students will have the ability to correct their test (tests go home Monday) and we will continue to work as a class on the low areas. If you have specific concerns about your child's test, please feel free to email me. Things to note... 1. Parent Teacher Conferences are Monday. Please sign up if you have not reserved a time. If there are no times that work with your schedule, please contact me to arrange another time. 2. Please take a few minutes to complete the parent survey prior to our conference. I had the students complete this form today too. It will be interesting to see how your answers compare! 3. Outdoor Education Information Packets went home today. All colored pages need to be filled out and returned. Don't forget about the Outdoor Education Meeting on Thursday, September 26th at 5:00pm in our classroom. 4. Today is midterm. Grades will be emailed home later tonight or early tomorrow morning. Enjoy the warm weather while it lasts! Thank you to all our chaperones for driving on our wonderful field trip yesterday. The students did marvelous despite the heat. We started reading "Amelia Lost." We will continue our study of Amelia Earhart next week. Remember, these books are from the Indianapolis Public Library and an extra measure of love and care for these books would be greatly appreciated. I will be attending a Computer-Science conference on Tuesday. The class will have a substitute teacher, Nora's mom! Mid-term is Friday, September 20th. Grades will be emailed home Friday evening along with a brief survey to be filled out prior to parent-teacher conferences. Upcoming dates... Quiz grades have been entered in Renweb. Next week we will finish up the unit and the test will be Friday. I am available before and after school most days for students who need extra practice before the test. Please email me for availability.
Next week we will start a non-fiction book called "Amelia Lost." This book goes through the life of Amelia Earhart and the final hours before her disappearance. Each student will receive their own copy of the book. These books are checked out for the Indianapolis Public Library. Please remind your child to be extra gentle with these books! This unit will last about 2.5 weeks and will include journaling activities and a final project. Things to note.. 1. We have a field trip next Thursday to Conner Prairie. Balloon Ride waivers went home today. Please fill out this form and return it on Monday. 2. School Picture order forms went home today. School Pictures are Wednesday, September 18th. 3. Please sign up for a parent-teacher conference. Here is the link. I would like to meet with every family. This is an excellent opportunity to me to discuss the wonderful things your child has been doing at school this year! 4. We have a new student starting on Monday.
