We had a pretty good week, again! I can't believe it's going to be fall break soon! Through Scholastic Dollars, our class was able to add four books to our 7th grade library!
Things to be thinking about.... Friday is a late start! Classrooms open at 9:10 am, and school starts at 9:25 am. Extended care is open regular hours if needed. Box Top Collection sheets are due back tomorrow! Gather your box tops and fill in the collection sheets to help us earn a reward! Donuts with Dad (or other male role model in your life) is Wednesday morning before school. A couple of weeks ago, I sent home an envelope and information about collecting donations for our Yard Work Service Project that the 7th grade will donate for All Saints' Fest this year; hopefully it made it out of the backpack! What are we learning? Religion: we have been talking about God's Word and what that means for Christians. Science: we have begun our class cell project. We actually put some of our structures up in the classroom today! Students are transforming our room into a plant cell. Health: we worked together to analyze what influences our character values. We have noticed that we don't always agree on what has the most impact on how we develop and shape our character. Ask your student about the classes they have outside of our room too! :) I pray that you have a blessed week! What can I say? I really enjoy my homeroom class! We had another great week...though, we really missed Michael this week, and pray that he is feeling better soon. Hannah introduced the class to the Beach Boys, and since then I have been quite entertained watching them bat at a mini-beach ball in the mornings. We took school pictures on Wednesday, and some silly class pictures too. Our new choice session started today, and from the looks of the students, they seemed to really enjoy what they are doing.
Things to be thinking about.... Monday, is an early dismissal day due to parent/teacher conferences. Dismissal is at 1:30 pm this day. If you were unable to sign up for a time slot with me or another teacher, please let me know, and we can work out another time to get together. Here is the Pre-Conference Form for 2019 - https://forms.gle/QNhE2h8GvpcAfuqS6 Starting Monday, is the Scholastic Book Fair, and it will be open each morning and afternoon before and after school all next week. You can set up an eWallet for your student so you do not have send in money with him/her...I will send home the form Monday for this opportunity. Gather your box tops and fill in the collection sheets to help us earn a reward! Last week I sent home an envelope and information about collecting donations for our Yard Work Service Project that the 7th grade will donate for All Saints' Fest this year; hopefully it made it out of the backpack! What are we learning? Religion: we have completed our Prayer Unit. Our memory and discussions will now center on some questions about our faith. Science: we have been learning about some of the organelles that can be found in a eukaryotic cell and how they work kind of like a factory, school, or city. Health: we discussed character, character values, and will be working together to analyze what influences these values. We will discuss how to avoid negative influences next week. Ask your student about the classes they have outside of our room too! :) I pray that you had a blessed weekend! In Christ, Nicolette Mierow Coming up this week: Monday, Sept 23rd - Early Dismissal 1:30pm/ Parent Teacher Conferences Monday - Friday - Scholastic Book Fair Other dates to keep in mind: Tuesday, October 1st - PTL Box Top Collection Wednesday, October 2nd - PTL Donuts with Dad 7:45 - 8:25 AM Friday, October 4th - Late Start Monday, October 7th - Middle School Fall Concert Wednesday, October 9th - tentative Spanish Field Trip Thursday, October 10th - 7/8th Saints for a Day at Lutheran High School 8:30A - 12:30P October 14-18 OSLS Fall Break - No School Tuesday, October 22nd - Bible Quiz Competition at LUHI Thursday, October 24th - Tentative Creation Museum Trip Date Friday, October 25th - OSLC Trunk or Treat @ 6:30pm Monday, October 28th - PTL Meeting @ 6:30pm https://ourshepherdmiddleschool.weebly.com/other-useful-information.html Another great week with 7th grade! We ended our week with a wonderful field trip to the art museum Thursday, and watching our choice class plays today. Great job to all the 7th graders who performed today!
We will be going to the Creation Museum this year, however our initial time frame will not work, due to 7/8th Grade doing Saints for a Day at Lutheran High School on Thursday before break. Mrs. Eberhard and I are looking at alternative dates for after fall break. I will let you know the actual date for sure ASAP. IMPORTANT PAPERS THAT WENT HOME TODAY Your student was given three papers to bring home today. The first sheet is a coupon and reminder for the PTL fundraiser night at City BBQ, which is Monday. Second, there is information about collecting box tops. Lastly, I sent home an envelope and information about collecting donations for our Yard Work Service Project that the 7th grade will donate for All Saints' Fest this year. What are we learning? Religion: we have completed our Prayer Path project, and many of these prayer paths are so cool! Have your student describe some of them to you when you get a chance. We also created some "Handy" Prayers by tracing our hands and writing our specific prayers on each of the fingers to help focus our prayer life. We will be finishing up our prayer unit next week, and a take home "Quiz" will be given, which will be due next Friday. Science: we have been studying eukaryotic organisms - single and multicullular organisms with a nucleus and other membrane organelles. We created a classroom full of protists, animal-like, plant-like, and fungi-like too. Later there will be a class project which will culminate with turning the classroom into a eukaryotic cell. Health: we discussed how to be health literate. Ask your student about the classes they have outside of our room too! :) I pray that you had a blessed weekend! In Christ, Nicolette Mierow Coming up this week: Monday, Sept 16th - PTL City BBQ Dine Out Wednesday, Sept 18th - School Pictures Friday, Sept 20th - Late Start, Midterm Other dates to keep in mind: Monday, Sept 23rd - Early Dismissal 1:30pm/ Parent Teacher Conferences https://ourshepherdmiddleschool.weebly.com/other-useful-information.html We had a great couple of weeks! Our first field trip to the zoo was awesome; it was simply a beautiful day. Our short week this week went well too, even with a late start today.
Next week, we are headed on our second field trip to the art museum. REMINDER! All missing work must be turned in by 4 pm Wednesday, Sept 11th, for students to be eligible to go on this trip. Please look at RenWeb (school code os-in, set up with your email) to find out if your student has anything missing. Many of them worked on missing work today during study hall, and should be caught up as of now, though it won't be reflected online yet. Also, heads up...we will be going to the Creation Museum this year. The date will be the week before fall break, either Wednesday or Thursday...I will let you know for sure ASAP. Look for a field trip form through email soon. What are we learning? Religion: we have continued talking about prayer. We created prayer cubes to help us be intentional about praying. We have also discussed and brainstormed prayer path/garden ideas too. Science: we are going to begin studying eukaryotic organisms - single and multicullular organisms with a nucleus and other membrane organelles. There will be a class project attached to this lesson, which will culminate with turning the classroom into a cell. Health: we discussed the areas of health and things that can affect our health - our choices affect health more than external factors. Students started to create health goals as well. Ask your student about the classes they have outside of our room too! :) I pray that you had a blessed weekend!
