Well, as predicted, this week has been just a crazy as the last! We had ILEARN testing Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, though there were minor hiccups in the schedule. We will be concluding the ILEARN on Monday, whew! Due to testing, there wasn't much new content this week for science or religion, though we have been discussing the resurrection and what this means for all of us.
Due to various scheduling difficulties, the art museum trip has been moved from this May, to the fall. If you have questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Mierow. In Science we will be finishing up rocks and minerals so we can move into forces and motion, just in time for our field trip to Kings Island. In health we will be learning about baby development milestones during the first 3 years....of which there are many! Can you remember your 7th grader as a toddler? It is hard to remember each time my kiddos hit a milestone, but looking back at their baby/toddle pictures has been an awesome opportunity to share memories with Hannah, Bethany, Ezra, and Mathias! I have asked that the students try to bring in a baby picture and/or toddler pictures for sharing. Thought I should give you parents a heads up in case some searching needs to be done. These pictures are just to share and should return home in the condition in which they came. Congratulations to our 7th grade Art Fair Finalists! First Place - Anna, Second Place - Ryan, and Third Place - Kloie REMINDERS & THINGS TO THINK ABOUT ILEARN Testing Monday morning and afternoon. Kings Island Field Trip will be May 16th. Please let me know if you are interested in being a chaperone. We will need at least 3 chaperones to fill our 15 person minimum for the trip. 7th Grade hosts the graduation reception each year. Graduation is Thursday, May 23rd. Here is the rubric that has been used in the previous years. Please look it over and let me know if you would be interested in being the parent coordinator for this night. 7th Grade will be fulfilling our Yard Work Service Project that we donated for All Saints' Fest this year at the Mattick's, on Friday, May 10th. I believe that between my van and the Mattick's, we can transport the whole class to their property and back. Students will need to wear clothing that can get dirty while doing yard work, and we may need to bring some tools to help us do our best work, though I will let you know if that is the case. NEWS FROM PTL Is May very busy for you? It is for us! May 13th PTL will be hosing a Tupperware fundraiser to help your May chaos. As we progressed through Holy Week, we have spent good quality time discussing how Christ shows His love for us. On Monday, we heard again about His triumphal entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, and moved into how on the next day He cleansed of the temple. Tuesday and Wednesday we focused on the teachings Christ gives to the disciples (and us) about how God's word would be fulfilled through Him. Maundy Thursday we walked through the institution of Holy Communion as Christ first gathered then washed His disciples' feet before sharing the Passover meal with them. Today, Good Friday, we read through the four Gospel accounts of Christ's betrayal and crucifixion, ending with His "breathless clay" being laid into a tomb. Each day of this Holy Week, the 7th grade shared in the knowledge of how the fulfillment of prophecies given to God's people are manifested in our Lord Jesus' active and passive obedience to the Father, as He went to the cross carrying the weight of the sins of the whole world, so that we, who are His, will be raised with Him by His death and resurrection. Praise the Lord for His abundant mercy and goodness towards us!
No memory next week due to no school Monday, testing Tuesday - Thursday, and Fine Arts Fest on Friday. In Science we have investigated how rocks and minerals are identified by using their physical and chemical properties. In health we will be learning about baby development milestones during the first year....of which there are many! Can you remember your 7th grader as and infant? It is hard to remember each time my kiddos hit a milestone, but looking back at their baby/toddle pictures has been an awesome opportunity to share memories with Hannah, Bethany, Ezra, and Mathias! I have a feeling this is going to be our kind of norm for the rest of the year!
This past week we had ILEARN practice tests, an amazing field trip to the Children's Museum, and the All Lutheran Track meet. ILEARN testing will begin Tuesday, April 23rd (right after Easter Monday). More details will be sent home in the next couple of days as things are confirmed with our test coordinator. Our Children's Museum trip was super fun! The outdoor portion was particularly fun, and I can safely say we would have spent the whole day out there if we'd had the chance. Our coding workshop was pretty fun too, though, and I felt like our middle schoolers really showed off their robot skills during that time. Way to go Jonathan! The track meet was cold and windy, but our team didn't let up. In Religion we have begun looking into the Second Article blessings, particularly that Jesus is both True Man and True God, fulfilling God's Law and winning for us eternal life and salvation through His death and resurrection. As this is Holy Week, we will focus on the events leading up to Easter, which will culminate with chapel service on Friday. Next week's memory is Hymn 436: Go to Dark Gethsemane. In Science we have investigated how the different types of rocks are formed; igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks also form a rock cycle, in which they are continuously eroded, subducted, heated, pressurized, and cooled, over and over again. Next week, we will continue with the rock cycle. In health we will be learning about baby development milestones, as we have finished learning about the amazing things babies can do before they are even born! I have asked that the students try to bring in a baby picture and/or toddler pictures for sharing. Thought I should give you parents a heads up in case some searching needs to be done. These pictures are just to share and should return home in the condition in which they came. REMINDERS & THINGS TO THINK ABOUT Spring pictures need to be returned. Thursday, May 23rd - Gradtuation (5-8th sings, 7th grade hosts reception) Friday, May 24th - Awards, Chapel, Field Day, LAST DAY OF 7th GRADE!!! Whew! What a whirlwind week coming back from spring break! April Fool's day was a lot of fun for a first day back, especially since all our snow flakes moved into the other middle school rooms and came to rest above the teachers' desks. Tuesday was the first track meet of the season, and many of the students came to cheer on Jonathan as he did long jump and ran his races. Friday has been a crazy day too. We spend our morning learning about blown eggs, and how to make scrambled eggs. This project is one I very much enjoy, as it is very different from other Easter related crafts. The 7th graders did such a great job, and the whole school smelled like breakfast afterward! Come check out some of the finished eggs hanging from our ceiling when you get a chance.
In Religion we have begun discussing how God blesses His people. Next week's memory is the meaning of the Second Article of the Creed. In Science we have examined how weathering and erosion can affect the landscape. We especially enjoyed delving into how Indiana's landscape has been changed over time. The virtual lab: Do Re Meanders, really helped solidify our understanding of how water plays such an important role in how Earth's surface is affected by natural forces. Next week, we will learning about what happens to the material that is produced by weathering and erosion, and how it contributes to the rock cycle. In health we will be learning about how a human develops during the Third Trimester of human development. I have asked that the students try to bring in a baby picture and/or toddler pictures for sharing. Thought I should give you parents a heads up in case some searching needs to be done. These pictures are just to share and should return home in the condition in which they came. REMINDERS: Tonight is Ladies' Night Out hosted by All Saints Fest auction committee.
