What a week! The biggest highlight would have to be our play, "Diary of Anne Frank" this Thursday. We only had two days of full class periods due our day off on Monday, and the late start on Friday, which made for an interesting test of flexibility.
Monday is the OSLS SciFest for the 3rd - 8th grade. In Religion we are reinforcing our understanding of confession and absolution in regards to our refreshed understanding of the 10 commandments. Memory will be on the Office of the Keys. Memory drawings are part of your overall Religion grade each week. They are a participation grade. In Science we did a really fun activity on modeling tectonic plate boundaries using food. In health we have begun our new unit, "Conception to Birth: Human Development" I pray that you all have a blessed weekend. This week we tried to have a normal week, but we had fog, rain, and cold weather make things seem a little gloomy, and Mrs. Mierow spent two days trying to figure out what was keeping her daughter from getting over her cold (including a trip to the Riley ER!). Pajama Day was a perfect way to end our week, however, and we also did some fun brain break activities Thursday and Friday morning to release some energy in a constructive way. This class is super silly and super fun! They taught me all about the Dinosaur Stomp!
In Religion we are continuing to talk about the commandments and how they relate to us as God's children. We have spent time talking about how we honor our neighbors' possessions and reputations. Memory will be the hymn, "The King of Love My Shepherd Is," just in time for Valentines day. (Don't forget to return the pink sheets with a doughnut order and special note for your student on Monday!) Memory drawings are part of your overall Religion grade each week. They are a participation grade. In Science we are continuing to learn about the interior of the Earth, and discovering plate tectonics. In health we will be moving into problems we can encounter within the skeletal system, which includes injuries and diseases. Papers that went home this week: Doughnut order forms for Valentine's Day (it's pink) Box Tops Sheet SciFest Egg Drop Information Sheet (it's purple) I pray that you all have a blessed weekend. We had such fun with all the dress up days this week, and then coming in 2nd place for penny wars was awesome! The school raised more than $1000 dollars, which means we get Pajama Day next Friday, Feb 8th. STEM activities provided us a lot of time to really stretch our brains today. The middle school learned how to program a spheroball, build a tower out of balloons, and create a vertical marble run. In Religion we are continuing to talk about the commandments and how they relate to us as God's children. We have spent time talking about how we honor our parents and other authorities and what it means to lead a chaste life. Memory will continue to focus on confession and absolution. Memory drawings need to be turned in for Confession II on Monday. In Science We will be moving into Earth Science, which covers the structure of Earth and study of geological processes. Cells Unit Tests will go home Monday. In health we are learning the names and locations of the bones in our bodies. There will be a quiz next Wednesday, covering the bone joints. Students will need to identify the type, kind, and the bones that meet for each. I pray that you all have a blessed weekend.
