What a week! Started off like a regular week, then Tuesday, I attended a conference on Biofuels...an interesting time. On Wednesday, we watched West Side Story at Beef & Boards, and Thursday to Friday, it seemed like we all played some catch - up! Today was picture day, and the 7th grade looked smashing! In the event that the pictures didn't turn out, don't worry, a make-up day will be scheduled for absent students and for those that didn't meet your standards the first go-round.
Today was Midterm of our First Trimester. Parent/Teacher conferences have begun; even met with a few of you this afternoon. If you have yet to sign up for a time slot, no worries! Just head to the link or email me to let me know what works for you. Next week, we will be having school Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, only. The teachers will be heading to a teacher conference in Ft. Wayne that will take place on Thursday and Friday, so there will be no school those two days. Enjoy your four-day weekend next week! (Volleyball girls, don't forget about our tournament next Friday and Saturday, though :).) Speaking of tournaments, our soccer team is participating in the Calvary soccer tournament at Calvary this weekend. They played already tonight, and will be playing a lot of soccer tomorrow, too. The cross country runners are headed to Horizon Christian for the Lion Stampede tomorrow...Good luck soccer and cross country teams! All Saints' Fest donation envelopes were sent home with your student today, be sure to ask him/her about it, along with graded work that has been sitting in their file folder for a couple of weeks :). All Saints' Fest tickets are available still, if you are thinking about attending, and if you are, check out the reminder from your ASF committee below. Did you know that babysitting is available the evening of the All Saints Fest on November 3? It’s only $15 per child and available at school from 5:15 until 11pm. Remember you can purchase tickets for this evening beginning Sept. 16 at $40 per person. The ticket includes a fine meal, fellowship and the chance to bid on great items. Watch for committee members selling tickets before school, on Sunday mornings, or you can pick up a form, fill it out and turn it into the office with your payment. Incidentally, the first 100 people purchasing tickets will get a coupon for a free glass of wine on November 3! Hi there 7-uppers and Families!
We are running full steam ahead it seems this year! Midterm is already upon us, this Friday, September 22nd. Here is the link to the conference sign-ups www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0D4BA5A629A0FF2-fall. Special Person's Day was wonderful this year. It was great to spend time with some your special people and be a part of the fun. Thank you to all those who came to visit! Wednesday, September 20th, is Beef & Boards. We will be heading out at 10 am. Mrs. Martin has been doing a great job keeping us all updated, I believe. Friday, September 22nd, is School Picture Day! Please bring your order forms and money if you wish to purchase a picture package. Students will have their pictures taken regardless, as this will serve as the picture for the class photo. All Saints' Fest information will be sent home with your student this Friday. Basically, this will include a description along with an envelope for sending in a family contribution for our class project (yard work service project). We made it through iReady! Student Reports will be printed and sent home very soon. The next test window will be in January, to check student progress as we go through this year. Our Shepherd has hired a new school secretary! I am sure you have already heard this news, but I wanted to make sure everyone gets a chance to welcome Heather Wash to the Our Shepherd team. These past two weeks we have had several of our students participate in soccer and volleyball games against St. John, Calvary, Trinity, and Zion. Soccer has been doing very well so far this season, and the volleyball girls are working hard, showing off great talent. Cross country will be having their home meet Saturday, Sept 9th. Bible Quiz will begin Tuesday, Sept 5th, and continue through the end of October. All the 7th and 8th graders will participate this next week, and they will need a bible or charged device every day along with a pencil. Starting Sept 11th, the classes will be split between Bible Quiz Prep and an Answers in Genesis study. There will be no memory work for 7th grade, however, there will be homework for both Bible Quiz and AiG groups. Questions about Bible Quiz should be directed toward Mrs. Martin. The 7th graders have a religion take home "quiz" that is due Tuesday. They are allowed to look up information to help answer the questions. In science we are taking a closer look at volcanoes and how they form due to tectonic plate motion. We enjoyed watching videos showing actual eruptions. The formation of a new volcano in Mexico was particularly fascinating, as it grew over the course of only a few weeks! For health, we do not have school this Monday, so our quiz on the three main layers of the skin will be Monday, Sept 11th. It will cover the three main layers of the skin: location, composition, and function. Next we will be looking at skin issues and how to care for our body's largest organ. Special Person's Day is coming up! Friday, September 8th, students and their special guests will participate in some fun filled activities during the school day. Information has been sent out already, and I am looking forward to this special day. Please remember to fill in the Special Person's Day form either on line or the paper copy you may have received from your student. These forms are to be completed no later than Wednesday, Sept 6th. If a form is not completed for your student, their special guest might miss out on a day of fun with their favorite 7-upper. All Saints' Fest Information: Mark your calendars. November 3rd is the date for the 24th Annual All Saints Fest. The All Saints Fest is the largest annual fundraiser for Our Shepherd Lutheran School. It is an evening for adults, this year to be held at the Grand Hall on High School Road. There will be fine food, fellowship and a silent and oral auction. Tickets go on sale the weekend of Sept. 16 and 17. You can also get involved by donating new items to the auction that evening. Proceeds this year will be used for a much needed playground shade shelter and tuition assistance.
