What a week! We started our week with a super fun 7th grade lunch party, which was delicious. Thank you for all the help to give the class this reward. Our next puzzle challenge will begin after Christmas break. On Wednesday, our Advent Service went very well...all three times! Kudos to the 7th graders for their clear and expressive voices during speaking and singing parts. We have some very talented students. In Religion we shared our second interviews from home about marriage and death, and how we can focus on Christ even in these issues. I would like to thank you for your time in these assignments. I know that some topics are not easy to discuss at any time, let alone with your student, but I really appreciate the time you took to have these conversations with them. Our Advent Family Story, Ishtar's Odyssey, has gotten a little suspenseful! The characters are not in the Wilderness of Death! I look forward to sharing the remainder of this story with the 7th grade next week. In Science we will begin learning about cellular respiration, or the process by which a cell produces energy to perform life functions. Memory drawings depicting what our verse is teaching us using different media (pencil, colored pencil, pen, marker, crayon), have been great again this week. I have enjoyed the different ways the students share their understanding of their memory. Remember: this will be a participation grade. Midterms have been sent out. Any missing or incomplete assignments should be completed and turned in as soon as possible. This year's 6th Graders are selling cookies to help pay for their Chicago trip. An order form was supposed to go home today, and well, it is still on my table; I apologize. Here is what the form looks like, so you can prepare for purchasing cookies next week. Forms will go home Monday, and need to be returned with money on Tuesday. We will be heading to Harrison Retirement Community on December 18th, to share some of our songs from the Advent Service between 1:45 and 3:00 pm. Friday, December 21st, we will be having a White Elephant Gift Exchange, and class fun time. In past years, we have also played games, watched Christmas movies, sung Christmas hymns, and enjoyed a variety of snack foods. Due to early dismissal, I believe that the snacks will fill us up and can serve as lunch too. The White Elephant exchange is not meant to be stressful, all I have in mind is for the students to bring something from home that they no longer need and is approved by you. There is really no need to spend money on this exchange. If you have questions between now and then, please let me know. I pray that you all have a blessed weekend! We did it! We completed our puzzle, and we will enjoy our special lunch on Monday, December 10th of lasagna and other yummy tasting foods. Here is the link again for the food sign-up. Several of the students are diligently working on another puzzle that we could use for the next puzzle challenge.
In Religion we have been discussing worship; what it looks like, and how it relates to Old Testament worship. We also shared some of the Perspectives on Life Interviews you participated in with your student. Thank you for your time in this, and for the wonderful words of advice that apply to all of us. We have continued reading our Advent Family Story called Ishtar's Odyssey. I have enjoyed sharing this with the 7th graders, and I have also enjoyed sharing the responsibility of the read aloud with them. Landon, you will get another chance to read again. In Science we investigated how material moves into and out of a "cell" through an exploration on Discovery Ed, and also by using eggs in a lab about Osmosis (diffusion of water through a membrane). Memory drawings depicting what our verse is teaching us using different media (pencil, colored pencil, pen, marker, crayon), have been really neat. I have enjoyed the different ways the students share their understanding of their memory. Remember: this will be a participation grade. Pink permission slip forms were sent home this week for our field trip to the nursing home. Please send in the signed slip with your student on Monday. Our field trip will be to the Harrison Retirement Community and will last from 1:45 - 3:00 p.m. on December 18th. This Sunday, December 9th, is the Caroling and Christmas Party Blast Event at Our Shepherd from 12 - 2:30 pm. Our class will be leading Advent service at 4:30 and 6:30 pm December 12th, and on December 18th, we will share our hymns with a local nursing home.
