Dear Seventh Grader and Family, Can you believe that summer is almost over? I hope you have been enjoying your summer vacation, as I have. My family and I travelled across country to visit my family in California. We camped at Starved Rock in Illinois, and at Rockport in Utah, on the way out. While at my parents’ we swam, hiked, and watched some World Cup too. On the way back home we camped and hiked at Arches National Park in Utah, which was amazingly hot and beautiful! I would love to hear about your many adventures and favorite destinations from this summer, too! On our first day of school we will do a summer show and tell. You can email me your stories and/or the pictures you would like to share, or you can just bring them on August 7th. Feel free to bring in souvenirs from your various exploits, too. (Power Points or slideshows are welcome but not necessary; “old fashioned” printed pictures work too!) I am really looking forward to being your homeroom teacher this year and not just your science and PE teacher! Our theme verse for the 2018 – 2019 school year is Psalm 46:1. We will focus on the many blessings God provides for us each day by exploring what it means to have a real and present God. One way to do this is to read God’s word. I encourage you to read a little scripture each day, perhaps as a family after dinner or before bed to remind yourself of all God has given and done for you. There are many great family devotions out there; find one that works for your family! Take note and mark your calendars for the many things happening this year at OSLS: 1) Meet the Teacher/Registration Day (July 31st, 9:00AM – 12:00PM or 4 – 7PM) Stop by to bring in any school supplies, and pick your locker and cubby. 2) Parent Orientation Night is August 2nd. Plan to attend either Session 1, from 6 – 6:45PM, and the whole group meeting in the sanctuary from 6:45 – 7:15PM, or start with the whole group meeting then attend Session 2, from 7:15 – 8:30 PM. 3) Varsity sports (Be sure to get your physical done!) 4) Choice classes (Do you have a special activity or skill you’d like to share or learn?) 5) Field trips IRT, Zoo, Children’s Museum, Creation Museum, to name a few, we’ll need drivers and chaperones 6) Bible Quiz (Oct 23rd) 7) Student Council (You could run for president!) 8) All Saints’ Fest (Nov 2nd) 9) Sci-Fest (Mar 7th 2019) Attached with this letter you will find the 7th grade class schedule and the middle school supply list, which includes a personal device this year (recommended – Chromebook, but your current device is good as long as you have or can attach a keyboard). This list is also available on the school website, and www.ourshepherdmiddleschool.weebly.com. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me either by text, phone, or email. God’s blessings on the final days of summer, and I will see you soon! In Christ, Nicolette Mierow
