The third trimester is off and rolling!
Report cards for second trimester went home today. In each envelope you will see your student's report card, results from NWEA math and reading testing earlier this year, and a balance sheet for the Mackinaw Class trip. There is also a pink sheet attached to the outside of the envelope - please sign and return that after you have a chance to review your student's report card. In regards to the balance sheets - if I happened to miss something or do any miscalculation, please be sure to let me know! If you have any questions regarding that, please reach out. As the we are nearing warmer temperatures, we, as middle school teachers, wanted to send a reminder about dress code. When wearing leggings or close fitting athletic pants, girls need to be sure that they are wearing appropriate-length dresses, skirts or tunic tops over them, as our dress code states. Please be sure that shorts are long enough too! I know many girls have done some growing over the winter, so checking to be sure shorts are still school appropriate would be a good thing to do right around now! Boys and girls alike need to be sure athletic shorts are fitting them properly as well. But, until it gets warmer, students need to be dressing for the weather. We had a fire drill today and students who chose to wear shorts and t-shirts to school today were quite chilly for those few minutes we were outside! Can you believe we are already 2/3 of the way through the school year? Unbelievable! The third trimester officially starts on Monday - a ""fresh" start to finish the year strong. Report cards from the second trimester will be sent home on Friday next week.
This morning the 3rd-8th grade students did some bridge building during Sci-Fest! It was neat to see the creations they were able to come up with in just 25 minutes. And for some of the teams, the bridges held a surprising amount of weight! Be sure to ask your student how they did! In Literature we have started our Journalism unit! We spend some time learning what goes into being a journalist: how to determine what stories to cover, how to cover those stories fairly, what things make a good video report, and anything and everything else that goes into creating broadcast news. Then, we have an actual journalist come in (Nina Criscuolo from WISH TV!) and share with us her experience and how she decides what footage she needs to gather and how to share the story in the most effective way. And then the fun begins - the students develop, write, shoot, and edit their own broadcast news story! We had a great time with this in the class last year and I look forward to seeing what this class creates! Be sure to check RAM NEWS for any other events and school news. But, it was a good week!
The Middle School Drama Night went off without a hitch! All students worked hard to memorize lines, improve on acting skills, design sets and costumes, and put together three great performances. There are plenty of things coming up with the trimester coming to a close very soon, so here are some reminders:
