What a wonderful week! We had a field trip to Conner Prairie to start our week. It was a great trip filled with wonderful weather and interactive learning. Our students received a big complement from the staff! The Conner Prairie staff praised our students for their excellent behavior and inquisitive nature. I am proud of the way the 6th graders represented Our Shepherd!
Additionally, this week we worked on ELA ISTEP Practice and started a new unit in math on fractions, decimals, and percents. Please work on common fraction-decimal-percent equivalents: halves, thirds, fourths, fifths, and tenths. These are great quick facts to practice in the car, at the dinner table, or whenever you have a few short minutes. See the link under “Other Important Information- 6th Grade” if you would like a complete list of the common fraction-decimal-percent equivalents. Quick Reminders:
This morning we celebrated Special Person's Day. It was wonderful to have all the special visitors in the building and the additional people in our Literature discussion this morning!
Today we concluded our study of Ruby Bridges with viewing the Ruby Bridges movie. Ruby Bridges was the first African-American student to be integrated into the school system in Louisiana in 1960. It was a good conversation starter and might be a topic that you continue to discuss with your child in the upcoming days and weeks. A preview to next week... 1. We will start Unit 8 in Spelling next week. 2. Tuesday is our field trip to Conner Prairie. Please be sure your child brings a lunch and wears their OSLS field trip shirt. You can expect an email from Mrs. May with additional information. 3. School picture forms went home today. Pictures are Wednesday, September 19th. 4. Midterm is Friday, September 21st. Parent- Teacher Conferences are Monday and Tuesday, September 24th and 25th. 5. Don't forget the 5-8th grade students sing this Sunday at the 8:00 and 10:30 services. Enjoy the rainy weekend! |
