Today started with a fire drill that will go down in the books. The planned fire drill did not go as planned when the fire alarm wouldn’t turn off due to a faulty sensor. The students didn’t seem to mind though because they got an extra 45 minutes outside in the beautiful morning weather. Praise God that there was no real emergency and that we had warm weather to enjoy! The Lord must have thought we needed to ease into the morning!
This week in Literature and Tech class the students worked on slides about Helen Keller and did some research on Braile. Slides will be presented on Monday. Next week we will read a biography about Matthew Henson, the first African American to travel to the North Pole. In Math, we are working through a unit on ratios. Please remind your child to work on their spiral math review each night in addition to any other math work they may need to finish up. Spiral review sheets are always on colored paper to make them easy to find. Some parents have asked about wishlist items for the classroom and other ways that they can help. Below are a few times that cannot be found on Amazon but would be very helpful for our classroom:

Three days down- 177 more to go. But who is counting?
I had a great three days getting to know your children. We jumped into a regular class schedule yesterday and today. The students did well transitioning from classroom to classroom and everyone got a 100% on their first memory work of the year. Way to go 6th grade! Things to note about next week: 1. We will be reading about Helen Keller in Literature 2. You will see a weekly spiral review for Math class. Students are expected to complete the Monday column for homework Monday night. 3. Memory work is Baptism Part I. Consider studying a little bit every night. Students can say memory work early but it must be said by Thursday morning. 4. Back-to-School Night is Thursday, August 15th. This night is for you, the parent, to learn about 6th grade. PTL and other groups will present in the Church at 6:45pm. Parents of middle school students will initially meet in the church immediately following PTL and then move to the classrooms after the group session. This session should begin around 7:15pm. I hope to see you all there! Enjoy the weekend. |
